Description

Chameleon Commerce House, formerly a row of houses, is now converted to shops and dates from the 18th century. The building features a plastered brick facade with a red brick left return and a red plain tiled gambrel roof. There is no chimney stack visible from the road. It has two storeys and attics, with four gabled dormers and a four-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes.

No. 35 has a 19th-century shop window and door to the left, with a three-light shop window to the right. It features end pilasters with brackets that enclose the fascia. The left window and door have arched mouldings above the window heads, with capitals and bases to the window jamb shafts and a moulded cill. There is a fanlight over the door, which has two lower panels. A moulded surround is present to the right, along with a three-light window. A plaque above the fascia reads "Commerce House."

No. 37 has a left two-panel four-light door, pilasters with capitals and bases, a frieze, and a flat canopy, with a small paned vertically sliding sash window to the right. No. 39 features a left small paned door with a moulded surround, a frieze, and a flat canopy, along with a small paned shop window to the right.
