Description
Nos. 15 and 17 on West Street is a bank building from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and features a hipped grey slate roof. The building has three large chimney stacks with moulded capping and bases. It stands three storeys high with projecting eaves, and has moulded brick brackets and a band at the cornice. Stone bands are present below the windows on each storey.
The façade includes a six-window range of vertically sliding sash windows with horns and segmental heads. The second floor has moulded jambs and heads, while the first floor features similar surrounds with ornate keystones. The ground floor has four central windows that resemble those on the first floor, flanked by attached shafts with capitals and bases on the jambs. Between the arches are stone panels with foliate carved motifs. This decorative detail is also seen on the right and left double panelled doors, which have fanlights above them.
