Description
This milestone, dating from the 18th century, is located on the northern verge opposite Lodge Cottage along The Lawn Drive. It has a rectangular shape with a rounded top. The road-facing side displays the distances to London (38 miles) and Southend (5 miles). A milestone is indicated at this location on the Chapman and Andre Map of Essex from 1777. This milestone is part of a series that includes others on Hall Road and Southend Road in Rochford.
