Description
Potash Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed with a timber frame and has a plastered exterior, topped with a red plain tiled roof. The building features a central tall red brick chimney stack and is one storey high with attics. There is an attic window located in the return gables. On the ground floor, there are two 19th-century two-light windows with transoms and pentice boards above. The central entrance consists of a vertically boarded door with a simple surround. Inside, there are back-to-back fireplaces, one of which has an original bake oven on the left. The cottage also has vertically boarded doors, some of which retain original ironmongery, and original floorboards are present in the bedrooms. A later brick extension has been added to the rear. It is believed that Potash Cottage served as the Gamekeeper's Cottage for Rochford Hall.
