Description

No. 61 High Street is a butcher's shop and store located in Great Wakering. The building dates from the early 17th century and the 19th century. The rear section is timber framed and pebble dashed, likely over weatherboarding, with a red plain tiled roof that is hipped with gablets at each end and has a hipped face towards the road. There is an external chimney stack on the left side. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window range, with wooden mullions on the right return. There is a similar opening on the first floor of the left return, along with two workshop windows on the ground floor, featuring four and five lights respectively. The front range is a 19th-century gabled single-storey butcher's shop, which is weatherboarded and has a grey slate roof. It includes a two-light shop window on the left and a two-panelled door with top lights on the right. A red plain tiled canopy, supported by five wrought iron brackets, extends over the entrance, with meat hooks hanging underneath.
