Description

Nos. 139 and 141 on High Street in Great Wakering are a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. They date back to the 18th century, with a date of 1595 noted on the return gables. The structure is timber framed and covered in pebble dash plaster. It features a red pantile roof with plain tile valleys and a rear range gault brick chimney stack. The building is arranged in a T plan and is a single storey. It has a four-window range of 20th-century two-light casements and a central vertically boarded door. During restorations, strips of carved wood were found, showing swags and a human foot, which may date from the 17th or 18th century.
