Description
A terrace of five houses, dating from the early 19th century, now used as homes for the blind. The houses are built of grey Gault brick, with a slate gambrel roof that is hipped on the north-east corner, and have five ridgeline stacks. The southernmost house has a double-fronted design.
The two-storey houses include an attic level and have a ten-window range. Behind a parapet with stone coping are five lean-to dormers, each containing a six-pane sash window. A moulded stucco cornice runs below the parapet and returns along the north flank. The southernmost house has three 12-pane sash windows on the first floor. The ground floor features a former central doorway, now replaced with a small-paned sash window. To the south of this doorway is a canted bay window with a sash window containing two vertical glazing bars; to the other side of the door is a similar 12-pane sash. The rest of the facade has semicircular-headed doorways alternating with sash windows; the first floor has four blind window recesses alternating with sashes. All but one of the door openings have been filled with sash windows. The exception has a projecting Ionic porch with columns, a semicircular fanlight, and a door with a single raised-and-fielded panel. The rear elevation features seven lean-to dormers, each with a six-pane sash window, along with five 12-pane and one 9-pane sashes on the first floor. The ground floor is obscured by 20th-century slate-roofed extensions that project out at right angles. The interior remains uninspected.
