Description

Nether Street Farmhouse is an early 17th-century house that features a timber frame and plastered exterior. It is a two-storey farmhouse with a hipped roof covered in clay peg tiles and consists of three bays with a central stack. The original layout follows a 'baffle entry' plan. At the rear, there is an original stair tower topped with a hipped peg tile roof, along with a 20th-century lean-to extension at the northern end.

The front of the house has a central doorcase made of painted timber, which is pedimented and supported by heavy console brackets, with a reeded architrave. The windows are modern casements with glazing bars, positioned one on each floor beside the doorcase. The first-floor windows have 12 lights, while the ground-floor windows have three lights, both featuring nominally pedimented heads. A painted timber cornice with an exaggerated cyma profile runs along the top, and there is a central early 17th-century red brick stack with four square shafts.

Inside, the bridging joists are stop-chamfered, the storey posts are unjowled and halved, and the plates feature blade scarf joints. The stair tower retains some original dog-leg stairs with turned balusters, square newels topped with ball finials, and a moulded handrail.
