TL 51 SE ABBESS, BERNERS AND BEAUCHAMP RODING 2/26 Nos. 1 and 2 Frayes Farmhouse

GV II

House now 2 dwellings. Late C16 2 storey, timber framed and plastered farmhouse. Roof peg tile, gabled at E end with a hipped return to a short hipped rear wing at the W with gablet at the ridge end. Single storey plain tile roofed extension at W end. 1 storey and attics gabled peg tile roofed brewhouse/service block, projecting to the rear at the E end. The back has later outshots and a gabled staircase tower. S front has 3 bays of square flush double hung sashes with small panes 10/10 with moulded surrounds. Lean-to porch against W end and tall red brick stack against flank wall. Off-centre, rebuilt large red brick stack with 4 engaged diagonal shafts. Eaves have been raised over entire front range. Rear has a mixture of casements, some cast iron and patch of old pargetting under lateral porch. Timber frame partially exposed internally, showing long tapering jowls and moulded corbel, for bridging joists. (RCHM 2).
