Description

Frayes Farmhouse is a late 16th-century house that has been divided into two dwellings. It is a two-storey structure with a timber frame and plastered exterior. The roof is covered with peg tiles and features a gable at the eastern end, along with a hipped return leading to a short hipped rear wing on the western side, which has a gablet at the ridge. There is a single-storey extension at the western end with a plain tile roof. At the eastern end, there is a one-storey and attic brewhouse/service block with a gabled peg tile roof that projects to the rear. The southern front has three bays of square, flush double-hung sash windows with small panes arranged in a 10/10 pattern, all framed with moulded surrounds. A lean-to porch is attached to the western end, and there is a tall red brick chimney stack on the flank wall. Additionally, there is an off-centre, rebuilt large red brick stack featuring four engaged diagonal shafts. The eaves have been raised across the entire front range. The rear of the building displays a mix of casement windows, some made of cast iron, and there is a patch of old pargetting beneath the lateral porch. Inside, the timber frame is partially exposed, revealing long tapering jowls and a moulded corbel that supports the bridging joists.
