Description
Plains Farmhouse is an early 17th-century house that was formerly a farmhouse. It features a timber frame with rendered surfaces and red brick, particularly on the gabled south wall and parts of the rear wall. The roof is gabled and covered in plain tiles. The building has two storeys with attics and includes extensive single-storey extensions.
At the front, there is a single-storey red brick brewhouse with a gabled plain tile roof and a gable end stack, which is attached to what was originally the rear elevation. A two-storey red brick extension from the 19th century is located at the present rear (east) side. The front (west) elevation showcases an off-centre rectangular ridge line stack and a gabled porch made of red brick, featuring an arched entrance and decorative bargeboards.
On the first floor, there are two 20-pane double-hung sash windows flanking a narrower double-hung sash window with a central vertical glazing bar. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement with a similar 20-pane double-hung sash window on either side of the porch. The brewhouse contains a mix of casement and sash windows.
The rear roof of the main block has two three-light 20th-century small-paned casement dormers with flat roofs, along with a two-light small-paned casement on the first floor and a small-paned sash and a tripartite small-paned double-hung sash on the ground floor. The rear extension features a collection of 19th-century small-paned casements and sash windows. Additionally, there are extensive 20th-century rear and side extensions with flat roofs.
