Description
Walnut Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 18th and 20th centuries. It underwent restorations around 1930 by Grace Faithfull Roper. The cottage is timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs, featuring a gambrelled crosswing on the right and a rear extension. There is a red brick chimney stack located off centre to the right of the main range and at the rear of the right crosswing. The building has one storey and attics, with a gabled dormer on the left range. The windows consist of a 1:1 arrangement of three and four light leaded casements. A lean-to porch is located on the left return of the crosswing, with a moulded doorway and an old timber door. Inside, notable features include chamfered bridging joists, some exposed timber framing, and an 18th-century corner cupboard.
