Description

Longbarns Farmhouse, now divided into two residential units, dates from the 15th century and 17th century. This two-storey farmhouse is timber framed and plastered, designed in an 'H' plan with a hall. It features gabled roofs covered with clay peg tiles. The exterior was remodeled around 1840, incorporating timber casements with single horizontal glazing bars and cornice drip moulds. The northwest wing has one square and one splayed 19th-century bay window, both with hipped tile roofs, along with a decorative gable and dormer.

On the northeast elevation, there is a two-storey 17th-century porch with a coved jetty soffit and a six-panel door framed by a moulded architrave. The southeast crosswing, which was originally jettied at both ends, consists of three bays supported by massive jowled posts and arch braces. There are large 19th-century red brick stacks, one positioned between the hall and the later crosswing with four diagonal shafts, and another near the earlier wing with three attached diagonal shafts. The two later 19th-century stacks on the southwest roof slope are square and feature pilaster strip ornamentation. The northwest crosswing gable retains original 17th-century bargeboards, and one first-floor post displays a decorative jowl.

Additionally, there is a single-storey outhouse range made of red brick located to the southeast, featuring a gabled peg tile roof and arched casement windows with a boiler stack. A garden wall from the 18th century encloses the northern and eastern sides of the garden.
