Description

Abbots Roding Hall is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating from the late 16th century or earlier. It is timber-framed and plastered, forming a ā€˜U’ shape. The roof is covered in clay peg tiles, with hipped front corners and half-hipped ends to the rear wings. A lean-to extension with a peg tile roof has been added to the rear, and a single-storey kitchen extension is situated at the rear of the east wing. The front elevation features four bays of sash windows with glazing bars, with a centrally placed porch supported by console brackets and a simple hood. A gabled porch with lattice sides and an oven projection is visible on the east elevation. A mixture of old and modern casement windows are also present. Three rectangular brick stacks rise from the ridge line. Inside, the house reveals halved and bridled scarf joints in the top plate, and a reused, elaborate 17th-century linen-fold panelled door. A cast-iron yard pump stands at the rear, and an 18th-century red brick garden wall encloses the south and east sides of the front garden.
