Description
This is a barn located to the southwest of Abbess Roding Hall, dating from around 1600. It is a timber-framed structure with seven bays and features two gabled midstreys on brackets on the north side. The main roof is gabled and covered with corrugated iron. The north elevation has tarred black weatherboarding, while three bays of the south elevation include brick nogging infill, which is not original. The other four bays on the south side have the upper half plastered and the lower half covered with tarred block boarding. There is an aisle-like lean-to on the north side and a gabled lower block at right angles from the northwest corner, both finished in black weatherboarding and topped with corrugated iron roofs and clay pantiles over the extension block. The posts are jowled with arched braces, and the roof features queen posts, diminished primary rafters, and evidence of former side purlins and windbracing. The top plates show halved and bladed scarfs. The barn is situated on a moated site.
