Description

The Green is an early 17th-century farmhouse, later used as a house, with 20th-century alterations. The structure is timber-framed with a stone plinth, and later brick additions. The roof is slate, with a ridge and two gable brick chimneys. The original plan features a cross-passage situated behind the main chimney stack. The south front presents as a 1-storey and attic, 5-bay design. The timber framing is regular, consisting of 16 by 3 frames with passing braces. Windows are 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and one small window replaces what was originally a fire window. Two gabled dormers are located above the main roofline. A simple wooden doorcase is found in the fourth bay. A brick outshut extends to the rear. Inside, the entry leads into the cross-passage behind an ashlar chimney stack. The hall to the left has a chamfered stone heck screen and an oak bressumer. An inglenook contains a rush-light holder niche. The interior features exposed ceiling beams and timber-framed walls throughout, along with queen-post trusses.
