Description

Yewtree Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, with later extensions and restorations undertaken for the Tollemache estate. It is constructed with timber framing and brick nogging on a stone base, and has a purple tile roof. It features a gable and a ridge brick chimney with diamond stacks. The original layout was a lobby entry plan, later extended to a long range. The front of the farmhouse has a 6-bay design, with a single storey and an attic. The windows are small, with two and three lights, metal casements, applied lead glazing, and angle braces to the sill and wallplate. Dormers are gabled and topped with finials. The board front door has iron strap hinges, located in the fourth bay. The left two bays represent a 19th-century extension.

Inside, the entry opens into a timber-framed baffle, with a hall featuring an inglenook fireplace and a chamfered ceiling beam resting on a post with a stopped head. A similar beam is found in the parlour. There are a three-panelled and a six-panelled door with fielded panels.

Running forward from the right-hand corner of the farmhouse is a garden wall constructed of tooled sandstone blocks, which incorporates a mounting block consisting of five steps with nosed arrises.
