Description
Laurel Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century, with a new front and extensions added in the early 19th century. The building features a mix of construction styles, including partly timber framed with brick nogging on a stone plinth, and partly made of English garden wall bond orange brick. It has a thatched roof and a central brick chimney. The layout follows a 2-room lobby-entry plan and is one storey with an attic, presenting a three-bay front. The end bays have three-light wooden casements with shallow segmental brick heads below, while there are two-light casements in gabled dormers above. The central entrance consists of a boarded door with iron strap hinges, located behind a flimsy glazed gabled patch. The gable ends display timber framing. Inside, the entry is against a baffle, with the room to the right featuring a small inglenook with an oak bressumer and a chamfered ceiling beam. The room to the left has a corner fireplace with a modern grate, and the stairs are located behind the stack. The trusses consist of a tiebeam with two diagonal struts and wind-braced purlins, and the timber framing is complete on three walls.
