Description

This barn, located approximately 9 metres northwest of Hogg's Farmhouse, dates from around 1700. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The barn has four bays that are aligned approximately northwest to southeast, with entrance doors on the southwest side and a blind midstrey or chaff bay on the northeast side. It features unjowled posts, primary straight bracing, and straight tiebeams made of imported softwood, likely from the Baltic region. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins. The barn showcases an interesting mix of local hardwood for the posts and studs, some of which are re-used, along with imported timber for the longest structural members.
