Description
The Barn at Belladale is a Grade II listed building located on Mountnessing Road in Blackmore. This barn, which dates back to the early 18th century, has been converted into a house in 1981. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The barn is arranged in three bays aligned northwest to southeast, with a midstrey to the southwest, creating a T-plan. It has two storeys, and all windows are 20th-century casements or fixed lights. There is a 20th-century door on the northwest side of the midstrey and a metal flue in the southwest pitch of the main roof.
Inside, the barn showcases unjowled posts, girts that are tenoned and double-pegged, primary straight bracing, and a clasped purlin roof. The main frame is constructed of high-quality oak, fully jointed and pegged, with studs that are tenoned but not pegged. On the first floor, stairs rise over each internal tie-beam, although the collars have been severed for framed doorways. The floor is supported by introduced old hardwood timbers, along with a similar newel post that has been added.
