Description
The wall from the southeast corner of the service range of Jericho Priory extends east to the moat. It is a garden wall built in the late 18th or early 19th century using red brick in Flemish bond. This wall runs approximately 58 meters to the east-southeast, then turns south for 3 meters, ending with a square pier. The south side of the wall is plain, while the north side features a step of about 0.04 meters, four courses above ground level, and plain piers at irregular intervals. The wall stands approximately 3 meters high and has a plain coping made of bricks laid on edge. It separates the private garden from the current entrance drive to Ingatestone Road; prior to around 1920, the vehicle entrance was from Church Street. There is one arched foot entrance near the west end, which is blocked by a triple garage to the north, and one 20th-century foot entrance immediately east of the garage, which has been rebuilt above a timber lintel.
