Description
Jessops is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a facade made of gault bricks laid in Flemish bond, and has a roof covered with slate or a substitute material. The main part of the building faces southwest and features an axial stack positioned to the right of the center, with a wing extending to the rear left that has an internal stack at the junction. The house is two storeys high and has an attached range of single-storey ancillary buildings that extend obliquely from the rear right.
On the southwest elevation, the ground floor includes two sash windows with 6+6 lights and one tripartite sash window with a configuration of 4:12:4 lights. The first floor has three similar sash windows with 6+6 lights, arranged asymmetrically. A band of 20th-century white bricks is present at first-floor level, arranged vertically. The roof is hipped, and both stacks have been rebuilt above roof level using 20th-century white bricks.
The northwest, or garden elevation, features two ground-floor sash windows with 6+6 lights and three on the first floor. There is one 20th-century door and an early 19th-century pair of three-panel doors with full-height flank windows containing three lights. Additionally, there is a full-length lean-to canopy roofed with slate or a substitute material. A major renovation was recently completed at the time of inspection in February 1989.
