Description
Watton Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century and late 18th to early 19th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with the ground floor constructed in red brick laid in Flemish bond. The roof is covered in peg tiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-window range with sash windows that have glazing bars. The central doorway is topped with a 20th-century flat canopy supported by slender square pillars. The door itself has six panels, with the upper panels being glazed, and is flanked by crudely reeded pilasters.
Inside, the house is arranged in two cells with a central passage and staircase. The binding and bridging joists indicate that this layout is original, although the partitioning has been renewed. At the rear of the west bay, there is a large lateral stack with a cooking hearth on the ground floor and a fireplace in the chamber above. The west side has a more recent stack, and 20th-century outshuts have been added at the back.
