Description

This barn, located 90 metres north-west of Lodge Farmhouse, dates from the mid to late 16th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The structure has eight bays aligned in a north-east to south-west direction and was originally built with two aisles, although one aisle was removed in the early 19th century. The roof is half-hipped and features jowled posts, heavy arcade bracing, and an original arch-braced side-purlin roof. The plates have halved and bladed scarfs. In the early 19th century, the arch braces to the tiebeams were replaced with hanging knees.
