Description
The Cottage is a house dating from the early 16th century and early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It has a timber frame that is roughcast rendered and features red brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor front. The roof is covered with handmade red plain tiles. The house has two bays facing northwest, with an exposed jetty at the right end. An additional bay was added to the left in the early 17th century, with a stack located behind the ridge. There is a catslide extension with a gabled dormer behind the left end, a 20th-century parallel range behind the right end, and an attached garage. A single-storey lean-to extension was added to the left end in the 20th century. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range of 19th-century small-paned casements, along with two 20th-century gabled porches. Under the jetty, there are two exposed brackets. The structure features jowled posts and joists that are jointed with soffit tenons with diminished haunches. It formerly had a crownpost roof, with reused rafters, and there are carved jowls in the left bay. The Cottage was formerly known as Perces Cottage.
