Description

Ward's Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber-framed and was plastered, with a weatherboarded dado and a roof of handmade red plain tiles. The original structure is a single range facing southeast, featuring 18th and 19th century external stacks at each end. A full-length, single-storey lean-to extension is at the rear, partly weatherboarded and with a slate roof. A 20th-century single-storey extension is to the right, with vertical planked walls and a corrugated iron roof. The house has two storeys. On the ground floor are one mid-19th century sash window with six lights, and two early 19th century horizontally sliding sash windows with six and six lights. The first floor has two early 19th century horizontally sliding sash windows with four and four lights. There is one four-panel door and one plain door. The front of the house features good early 20th-century pargetting with fan patterns in panels, and some 18th-century pargetting is visible on the rear wall. A horizontally sliding sash window with four and four lights is found in the left return. The original 16th-century framing features jowled posts and heavy, knee-like braces to the tiebeams.
