Description
Letche's Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber framed and primarily covered with red brick in stretcher bond, with some plaster, and has a roof made of machine-made red plain tiles. The main part of the house faces south, with the gable end facing the road. It consists of three late 16th-century bays and retains parts of an earlier building at the left end. There is an axial stack, a 19th-century rear wing, and a single-storey lean-to extension at the left rear angle. The house is two storeys high and features a three-window range of 19th-century casements, each with four small top-hung panes above the two main lights, set in segmental arches. The off-centre six-panel door, with four glazed panels, is located in a recessed porch. A doorway near the left end has been blocked to create a 20th-century casement. The roof is hipped only at the left end. The left end and rear lean-to are plastered, while the rest of the building is brick-clad from the 19th century. The house has jowled posts and an original side-purlin roof with arched wind-bracing, along with an early 19th-century staircase.
