Description
Four cottages located approximately 25 metres south-west of Lovelands Farmhouse are currently unoccupied. They date from the late 15th century to early 16th century and were remodelled and refronted in the late 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed and partly plastered at the rear, while the side and front walls were rebuilt in late 19th century brick. The roof is covered with red concrete tiles and is half-hipped to the right, featuring late 19th century brick ridge stacks.
The cottages are one storey with an attic and have a late 19th century front that includes a four-window range, with segmental brick arches over three late 19th century plank doors and 20th century casements. There are also 20th century windows set in four flat-headed mid-20th century dormers. Inside, the cottages have late 19th century ceiling joists, except for an original chamfered beam on the left. There is a close-studded partition with wattle and daub infill on the right, and the rear has an exposed timber frame with a late 15th century to early 16th century arched doorway at the centre, which has been blocked by the insertion of a late 19th century staircase. The rear frame features a chamfered wall plate and jowled posts supporting a five-bay roof, which survives in part. There are chamfered tie beams on the left and centre, with the centre beam concealing a queen-post truss, while other tie beams have been truncated due to late 19th century remodelling.
