Description

Chestnut Place consists of two cottages dating to the late 15th and early 16th centuries, with a floor inserted in the early 17th century and a crosswing added to the left around the same time. The cottages are timber-framed and plastered with a thatched roof. They have one storey and attics, with one gabled dormer and a dormer to the crosswing’s right return. The front has a four-window range of small-paned casement windows, and one window in the attics of the crosswing. There are two vertically boarded doors. The interior retains a significant amount of exposed timber framing. A notable inglenook fireplace exists, along with a relaid brick floor. One external chimney stack of red brick, featuring dog tooth detailing, is located to the left, and a 17th-century red brick chimney stack sits at the rear. A single-storey extension to the right features a grey slate roof and a matching door and window.
