GV II

Lodge cottage. Circa 1887. Red brick. Hipped red plain tiled roof with pierced ridge tiles and acroteria. Moulded brick coping to central forward gable surmounted by a ball finial. Large central rectangular red brick chimney stack with 5 pilaster strips and fleur de lis panels over. Moulded eaves cornice with roundel and hexaglyph band under. Moulded string course at cill level. All mouldings follow through returns. Single storey. The gable with a two light vertically sliding sash window, glazing bars to upper sashes, in heavily moulded brick surround. Frieze with moulded panels, moulded segmental head with swag panel over. Angle porch to left of gable, with balusters to wall supporting two moulded shafts with moulded flat canopy over. Half glazed panelled door. To right of gable is an ornate moulded panel with intertwined date 1887 and a smaller panel over. Notable for its ornate moulded brickwork which is similar to Rookwoods Cottage approx. 30 metres north. q.v. 2/331. Included as a particularly good example of moulded brickwork in Queen Anne style.
