Description

Rookwoods Lodge is a lodge cottage built around 1887. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped roof covered with red plain tiles, which has pierced ridge tiles and acroteria. The central forward gable is adorned with moulded brick coping and topped with a ball finial. A large central rectangular chimney stack made of red brick has five pilaster strips and fleur de lis panels above. The eaves have a moulded cornice with a roundel and hexaglyph band beneath, and there is a moulded string course at the cill level, with all mouldings continuing around the returns.

This single-storey building has a gable that includes a two-light vertically sliding sash window with glazing bars in the upper sashes, set within a heavily moulded brick surround. Above the window is a frieze with moulded panels and a moulded segmental head featuring a swag panel. To the left of the gable is an angle porch with balusters supporting two moulded shafts and a moulded flat canopy above, leading to a half-glazed panelled door. To the right of the gable is an ornate moulded panel featuring the intertwined date 1887 and a smaller panel above it. Rookwoods Lodge is notable for its intricate moulded brickwork, which is similar to that of Rookwoods Cottage located approximately 30 metres to the north. It is recognized as a particularly fine example of moulded brickwork in the Queen Anne style.
