Description

This is a barn dating from the 18th century, located 30 metres north-west of Bentall's Farmhouse. It is constructed with a timber frame, weatherboarded, and sits on base walls made of red brick in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos. The barn has five bays aligned northeast to southwest, with a midstrey located on the southeast side. There is an open lean-to shelter in the southern angle, which is roofed with a combination of black glazed and red unglazed pantiles. In the eastern angle, there is a red brick lean-to byre with a slate roof.

The northwest elevation features sliding doors that have replaced the original great doors, with pitching doors above and below the girt on either side. The midstrey retains its original halved doors for winnowing, which are positioned well above the outside ground level and are not wide enough for vehicle access. The lean-to byre includes a blocked doorway and two arched openings that serve as drains or dung passages. The barn's main frame is pegged, with primary straight bracing and bolted braces to the tiebeams. It has a clasped purlin roof. This barn is in exceptionally good structural condition and retains a notable number of original features. Bentall's Farmhouse itself is not listed.
