Description
Town Green Cottage is a mid-17th century cottage located on Town Green Road. It features a timber frame with plaster rendering and a long straw thatched, half-hipped roof. The upper brick courses of the timber framed and plastered ridge chimney stack have been removed, while there is an external late 17th-century red brick end stack to the south. The cottage has a lobby entry and a three-bay plan, consisting of one storey and an attic. The west front includes one gable dormer and two 19th-century windows, one of which is a horizontal sliding sash.
Inside, there is a framed chimney stack that is now sealed, with ceiling joists laid on edge and stop-chamfered. The red brick parlour hearth, dating from the late 17th century, features repaired brickwork and an original chamfered arched opening. A braced tie beam supports the centre truss, and the layout includes three bays with a narrower chimney bay.
