Description

ORWELL TOWN GREEN ROAD TL 3650 (East side) 14/302 No. 35(Town Green Cottage) GV II

Cottage. Mid C17. Timber framed, plaster rendered and long straw thatched, half-hipped roof. The brick upper courses of the timber framed and plastered ridge chimney stack have been removed. External late C17 end stack to south. Red brick, single flue. Lobby entry and three bay plan. One storey and attic. West front has one gable dormer and two C19 windows, including a horizontal sliding sash. Inside: Framed chimney stack, now sealed. Ceiling joists laid on edge, and stop chamfered. Red brick parlour hearth in this room, later C17, repaired brickwork, but original chamfered arched opening. Braced tie beam to centre truss. Three bays and narrower chimney bay.
