Description

This is a mid-17th century cottage situated on High Street in Brampton. It is built with a timber frame, now covered with plaster rendering on a limestone plinth. The roof is thatched and half-hipped, featuring a large, rebuilt ridge stack. The cottage originally had three bays and a lobby entry plan. The exterior features three horizontal sliding sash windows on the upper floor, and three similar sash windows on the ground floor, all with glazing bars. An early 19th century six-panelled door is located opposite the stack.

Internally, some of the timber framing is visible. Features of note include long straight bracing from posts to sills, and edge halved and bridle butted scarf joints in front and rear wallplates. Original floor joists are clamp pegged to the front and rear walls. The roof retains its original side purlin construction, with a ridge piece at the apex.
