Description
The Old House is an early 18th-century L-plan farmhouse, which likely incorporates a 17th-century timber-framed house with three bays and a lobby entry. It features red brick construction with a slate roof, while the rear range is tiled. A 17th-century red brick ridge stack remains from the original structure. The building is two storeys high with attics and has five window bays, although the central bay is now blocked.
At each corner of the front elevation, there are two pilasters with rubbed brick capitals and bases. The first floor has four early 18th-century hung sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath segmental arches and open boxing. The ground floor features four similar arches and surrounds for 19th-century hung sashes with vertical glazing bars. The central doorway has a four-panelled door with two small glazed upper panels. A gabled stair-turret is located at the rear angle of the house. Inside, there are two sealed inglenook hearths and a newel staircase with flat section balusters, along with two original casements that have diamond leaded lights.
