Description
Nos. 26 and 28 on Lotfield Street are a pair of houses dating from around 1600. They are timber framed and plaster rendered, with an original steeply pitched roof that is now covered with concrete tiles. There is a 19th-century ridge stack made of grey brick. The houses have a four-bay plan and are two storeys high, featuring four modern casement windows on each storey and two doorways.
An inspection of the interior of no. 26 revealed a stop-chamfered middle rail and intersecting ceiling beams. There is an inserted 19th-century chimney and hearth, indicating that the building may have originally been unheated and possibly used for a special purpose. The main posts of the structure have jowled heads and are supported by braced tie beams.
