Description
Town Green Farmhouse is a house and barn that has been converted into a single dwelling, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The building features an exposed timber frame and long straw thatch, with a rebuilt end stack on the southeast side. The east-west range of the house consists of two bays and is two storeys high, with a jettied first floor and closely set, uniform scantling studwork. There is a leaded light casement window from around the 1930s on both the first and ground floors.
At right angles to the main structure is a north-south range, also two bays and two storeys tall. This range includes some inserted timber framing, but the main posts and trusses remain intact. It has two modern leaded light windows on the first and ground floors, and there is a doorway in the linking addition between the two ranges. Inside, the north-south range has some 1930s inserted timbers, but retains original cambered tie beams and ceiling. The east-west range was extended at the rear in the 17th century, and it features an inglenook hearth from this period.
