Description
The milestone beside the road opposite Brookland Avenue is a Grade II listed structure located on Trumpington Road. It is the first of a series of 16 stones that were erected along the old road to London by William Warren in 1728, following the will of Dr. William Mowse, who was Master of Trinity Hall from 1552 to 1553. This rectangular stone features an inset rounded head and displays the arms of Trinity Hall alongside those of Mowse, as well as a pointing hand. The inscription on the stone reads "1 Mile to Great Saint Maries Church Cambridge" and includes the date "A D," which is illegible but is known to be 1728. Additionally, there is a datum mark on Great St Mary's Church related to this milestone.
