Description

Milestone outside 100 Hills Road, erected in 1731 by Dr. William Warren, is a stone block inscribed with "1 mile from Great St Mary's Church Cambridge." This milestone is the first in a series that marked the distances between Cambridge and Haverhill. Dr. Warren, a Fellow of Trinity Hall, was also responsible for a series of 16 milestones along the old road to London. Milestones are important as they are among the few physical remains of the national historic road network, making them significant both locally and nationally.
