Description
Brooklands, located at 24 Brooklands Avenue, is a building dating from around 1830, with alterations made around 1900. It is constructed of grey gault brick and has two storeys with three bays, the central bay being recessed. The windows are sashes with glazing bars on the upper floor, while the lower floor features French windows, although the ones in the south bay are not functional. The central doorway is flanked by Ionic half-columns and topped with a pediment, and it has a modern door with a rectangular light above. A porch was added around 1900. The building has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with boxed gutters. A low block was added to the north side, and a new staircase was fitted during the 1900 alterations. Inside, original features include marble fireplaces, elaborate doorcases, and a notable fireplace in the south room with a panelled overmantel.
