Description
12 and 13 Carlton Road are a pair of estate cottages built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and feature an old clay tile roof with fishscale tiles on the north slope. The cottages are designed in a T-plan, with each cottage having two bays.
No. 12 has a central red brick chimney stack, while No. 13 has gable end stacks. On the west elevation, No. 13 has a 2-light casement window on each floor of its gable end. No. 12 features two sash windows with glazing bars and yellow brick surrounds on each floor, along with a doorway on the left that has a gabled door hood supported by moulded wooden brackets and cusped, fretwork bargeboards.
The north elevation of No. 13 includes two first-floor 2-light casement windows, each with one leaded light, and on the ground floor, there are two 2-light casement windows flanking a doorway that also has a gabled, bracketed door hood. These cottages are included for their group value.
