Description

The Stone House is a Grade II listed building formed by linking a small 18th-century house with a 19th-century house to create a single large dwelling. There are additional 19th-century extensions at the rear. The structure is built of coursed limestone rubble and features old clay tile roofs. The 18th-century section on the east side has a gable end facing the road, consisting of two bays and one storey with attics. The south gable end is topped with a drop finial. The attic has a single light casement window with glazing bars, while the ground floor features a two-light casement window with a timber mullion and a high-level transom. The east elevation includes a flat-roofed attic dormer and a stone gabled porch with a fishscale tile roof. There is a rear wing that is two storeys high and set at right angles, with a banded plain and fishscale tile roof. On the south elevation, the first floor has two two-light casement windows, the left one having glazing bars. The ground floor has two casement windows, with the left-hand one being a three-light window with glazing bars and a red brick gauged head, while the right-hand one is a two-light window. To the west is the mid-19th-century house, which has a double pile plan with parallel gabled roofs and gable ends facing the road. This section is two storeys high, featuring moulded gable finials and carved bargeboards on the south elevation. The large moulded timber brackets support the overhanging verges. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground floor has a sash window with glazing bars on the right side and a 20th-century bow window on the left side. The west elevation showcases two large gables with plain bargeboards and moulded brackets, with two sash windows with glazing bars on each floor and a central doorway.
