Description

The War Memorial in Turvey was dedicated in 1919, with additional names added after the Second World War. It is made of granite and features a square base topped by a three-stepped plinth. On the plinth, there is raised lead lettering that reads: "THEIR NAME LIVETH / FOR EVERMORE / THIS CROSS IS ERECTED TO THE HONOURED / AND UNDYING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF / THIS PARISH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES / FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS / AD 1914-1918 / AD 1939-1945," along with the names of the deceased. Above the plinth, there is a tapered shaft with a rectangular plan, which has a scrolled foliate design carved in relief on the front. The memorial is capped with a wheel cross that features a knotwork pattern on its face.
