Description

Dean House Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse with 19th-century windows, located on Brook Lane in Upper Dean. The building features a colour-washed rough cast exterior on a timber frame and has an old clay tile roof. It is designed in an H-plan and has been extended to the rear, standing two storeys high with attics. Inside, there is a cross-passage and an off-centre red brick stack, along with a projecting three-stage gable end stack to the south, where the bottom stage is made of coursed limestone rubble.

The windows include moulded wood mullion and transom casements on the left-hand gable at both the ground and first floors, as well as in the central bay at ground floor and on the right-hand gable at first floor. The left-hand gable attic features a two-light casement. The central bay at first floor has two three-light wood mullion windows, while the right-hand gable at ground floor has two sash windows with glazing bars. There are also two hipped dormers in the central bay, each with two-light casements.

The entrance boasts a six-panel door set within an architrave surround, complemented by Doric pilasters and an entablature. The farmhouse retains remnants of pinhole pattern pargetting and has bargeboards on the gables. Notably, the ground floor room is adorned with early 17th-century oak panelling, featuring bas relief figures and foliate carvings.
