Description

Green Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse located on The Green in Monewden. It is timber framed, finished with colourwashed render, and originally had a thatched roof, which has since been replaced with pantiles. The building features a three-cell baffle-entry plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic.

On the entrance front, there is a gabled 20th-century porch to the right of the ground floor. To the right of the porch, there is a 3-light casement window, and to the left, a window with 6 x 3 panes. A further 3-light casement window is located at the far left. The first floor has four 3-light casements. A ridge stack with two flues is positioned left of centre. The right gable end is blank, while the left gable end has a ground floor casement window and a cross window in the attic. At the rear, there is a projecting gabled 19th-century wing on the left, which features a 4-light window on the ground floor and a single-light window on the first floor. A lean-to is situated to the right of this wing, with a 5-light casement window on the ground floor and a single-light window above.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered ceiling beams with broach end stops on the ground floor, jowled wall posts, and both chamfered and plain joists. There is a further similar room on the ground floor. A winder staircase leads to the baffle entry, and there is a blocked 4-light window on the first floor landing.
