Description

Home Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse constructed with a timber frame, featuring colourwashed render and a slate roof, which was originally thatched. The building has a baffle-entry three-cell plan and consists of two storeys and an attic.

On the entrance front, there is a gabled porch doorway from the 19th or 20th century located on the right, which contains a modern six-panel door aligned with the screens passage. To the right of the porch is a two-light 19th-century casement window, while to the left are a four-light and a three-light casement window. The first floor has two three-light casements, along with a two-light and a single-light window that are combined within one frame and separated by a king mullion. A stack with two flues, partially rebuilt in the 19th century, is situated at the ridge on the left of center. The right gable end features another stack with a ground floor window to its right and a 20th-century brick outshut further to the right. The left gable end has an early to mid-19th-century bow window at ground floor level, flanked by two-light windows, with a single-light attic window above. The rear of the house has a 20th-century outshut covering the entire ground floor and a random arrangement of windows on the first floor.

Inside, the kitchen retains remnants of a screens passage, with the panelled screen still intact. Mortice holes in an axial and a cross-axial beam indicate the former positions of walls for service rooms. The hall features a massive ceiling beam supported by jowled wall posts with chamfered edges and die-out end stops, along with a blocked window that has diamond-section mullions and a large hearth. A winder staircase rises from the lobby entry, which was formerly located at the rear of the house. Similar beams are found in another ground floor room. The first floor displays close studding, reversed arched braces, and jowled wall posts, with heavily cambered tie beams. One section of the hall has been divided off to create a passageway, and the wall plate and an arched brace are visible on the first floor, with close-studding in the dividing walls.
