Description
Redhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th century. The building is timber framed and features pebbledash render and brick, topped with a plain tile roof that was originally thatched on the 17th-century section. It is two stories high with an attic.
The entrance front has a projecting late 19th-century wing on the right, which features a double gable. To the left of this wing is a six-panel ground floor door, accompanied by a three-light window to its left and another three-light window above on the first floor. The right gable has four-light casements on both the ground and first floors, along with a two-light attic window. The 17th-century portion of the farmhouse, which is recessed on the left, has 19th-century windows. There are four-light casements on both sides, a three-light casement on the first floor to the right, and a projecting gabled 19th-century bathroom addition on the left with a two-light window. A further two-light casement is situated at the far left.
On the right side of the house, there are two four-light casements on both the ground and first floors. The rear, which may have originally been the entrance front, features 19th and 20th-century windows. There is a porch-wing at the right of the center with a half-glazed door and a two-light window above it on the first floor. To the left of the porch are two four-light casements and a pair of French windows within a gabled open porch at the far left. The first floor has two four-light casements, one three-light casement, and a single-light window. In the attic, there are two gabled dormers and a two-light window in the left gable. The right side has a 19th-century addition with a 20th-century metal-framed casement.
The chimney stack on the left ridge has a rectangular base with sawtooth flues above and oversailing top courses, while a similar 19th-century stack is located on the right. Inside, the farmhouse features ovolo-moulded crossed ceiling beams in the ground floor and first floor room of the cross-wing, with chamfered beams in the other rooms. The walls have close studding and jowled wall posts that previously supported arched braces.
