Description
Batch Cottages, consisting of Nos. 1 and 2, are two houses dating from the late 16th century and early 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The cottages feature a timber frame with painted brick infill and a machine tile roof. They are arranged in three framed bays running north to south, with a half-bay of 16th-century timber framing at the northern end and an 18th-century timber cross-wing at the southern end. The buildings are one storey high with an attic, which is illuminated by two gabled dormers and a canted oriel window in the gable on the right side.
On the ground floor, there are six windows, primarily two-light 20th-century casements. The entrance to No. 1 is located between two left-hand windows and features a 20th-century gabled tiled canopy, which is accessed by three stone steps leading to a 20th-century glazed door. The entrance to No. 2, situated to the right, has a segmental canopy above a 20th-century panelled door. The framing of the cottages includes close-studded sections in the 16th-century part, while the remainder of the building has two rectangular panels on the ground floor and two square panels high on the first floor, supported by straight tension braces.
