Description
Broughton Cottages is a house that has been converted into shops. It dates from the early 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill and a machine tile roof. It consists of two framed bays and has a gable-end stack. The structure is one storey high with an attic that is illuminated by two 2-light late 20th-century casement windows under gablets. On the ground floor, there are two canted oriel windows beneath a late 20th-century flat pentice roof supported by three 17th-century consoles. The entrance, located to the right of the centre, has a late 20th-century glazed door. The framing includes two square panels with straight tension braces on the first floor and close-studded construction on the ground floor. The left-hand gable truss features three struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex. Inside, the ceiling beams are exposed, chamfered, and stopped.
