Description
Nos 27 and 28 on Load Street is a house that has been converted into two shops and flats. It dates from the early 18th century, with some early 19th century and mid-20th century alterations. The building is constructed of brick and has a tiled roof. It stands three storeys high and features a dentilled brick cornice and a band at the first floor.
The facade includes two windows with plate glass sashes set under segmental heads, while the second floor has 9-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there is a passage to the left corner leading to an entrance approached by three stone steps, which features a 2-pane overlight and a ledged and boarded door. There are also two canted bay windows; the left bay is filled with plate glass, while the right bay has a 16-pane sash window facing the front.
The entrance to no 27 is located to the left of the left-hand window and is approached by four stone steps, featuring a wooden architrave and a glazed door. The entrance to no 28, on the right, is also approached by stone steps and has a wooden architrave, a blind 3-panel overlight, and a glazed door.
