Description
No 31 on Load Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and flats. It dates from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and has a tile roof. It stands three storeys high and features a dentilled brick cornice.
The façade has two windows on the upper floors, which are glazing bar sashes set into stone sills, with plastered stepped voussoirs above the flat arches. The second floor has similar windows, but with 9-pane sashes. The ground floor includes an entrance to no 30, which is approached by seven stone steps, and features a wooden architrave, a 3-pane overlight, and a 5-panel door. To the right, the shop front has wooden pilasters and a moulded cornice, with a 2-pane shop window. The entrance to the shop is recessed to the left, accessed by five stone steps, and includes an overlight and a glazed door.
