Description

32 and 34 Bridge Street is a house and shop with a frontage dating from the second half of the 18th century, featuring some later alterations and earlier timber-framing. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, which has been painted, and has a plain tile roof with brick dogtooth eaves and brick stacks at the ridge and right end, the latter of which has been heightened.

The exterior consists of two storeys and a cellar, with a three-window range that includes two boxed 6/6 sash windows under painted gauged brick flat arches and one larger 8/8 sash window without an arch. There is an incomplete string course at the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a similar 6/6 sash window in the centre; to the right, a three-light bay-window shopfront features plate glazing, deep mullions, and a frieze and cornice that extends to the left over a part-glazed panelled door with a small overlight and stone steps. At the left end, there is a 20th-century door below an overlight and 20th-century double plank doors leading to a side passage under a shared hood. The plinth has a cellar grille under a segmental arch at the centre. The rear of the building includes a timber-framed wing. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to retain timber-framing.
